Trek Gravel bikes explained:

Currently there are two variants within Treks’ gravel arsenal, the Checkpoint and the recently released Checkmate.

With the Checkmate joining the party, it gives customers the option to go for a gravel bike that is either designed for touring, such as the Checkpoint or built to race like the Checkmate.

The Checkpoint features a much more relaxed geometry, with ample space to mount travel bags and bottle cages. Where as the Checkmate features a more aggressive geometry with space for two bottle cages.

The gravel bike scene is picking up in SA, with a lot more races coming up, don’t miss out on all the fun! For more info and pricing on our gravel bikes, look under the TREK tab.

Helmets – Safety first or aero is everything?

Is there a helmet than can do both?

We believe there is! At Trek you can find a wide range of helmets on offer, but which helmet is the best all-rounder?

We took the following in consideration:

  • Price
  • Aero advantage
  • Added safety features

Keeping the above points in mind, we went to work! The helmets start at Bontrager Solstice, which is the entry level helmet and it only ticked the price box, which came in at R749, it protects your head but that’s about that!

BONTRAGER HELMET SOLSTICE BLACK

On we go! We then looked at the Bontrager Circuit helmet, which is more expensive, however this helmet features the scientifically proven Wavecel technology which protects your head when you crash. It also adds less drag with it’s aero shape! This helmet also features awesome magnetic Blendr mounts to mount your Bontrager lights or GoPro, which is pretty sick! This model comes in at R3399.

BONTRAGER CIRCUIT WAVECEL HELMET – WHITE

The next helmet we looked at is the Trek Velocis helmet, this is the latest model, featuring some carbon parts to shed some weight! This helmets tips the scales when it comes to weight and aero advantage or should we say it doesn’t tip the scale as it’s so light! The helmet also features a MIPS Air safety system to keep your brain safe, should you crash or want to test Neuton’s first law. It’s no wonder it’s the choice of the Pro Team. Unfortunately when it comes to the price this helmet does indeed tip the scale as it’s quite expensive, coming in at R5500.

To conclude our helmet of choice, considering all of the above…we’d go for the Bontrager Circuit helmet, as it offers the most variety and comes with cool mounts!

But don’t our word for it! Come pop in and try them all on for size and make the informed decision.
